Tournaments

Tuesday, 08 June 2010 00:00 | PDF | Print | E-mail

PLEASE NOTE: The information below was accurate for Gulf Wars XIX (2010) and is listed here for your reference only with the understanding it may change at any time.  This will be updated for Gulf Wars XX (2011) as soon as the information is available.

King Renee Style Tournament – Sponsored by the Tournament Company of St. Katherine
Tuesday Noon – 1:00 PM

The Tournament Company of St. Katherine will be hosting a King Renee style Tournament and prizes will be given for the most period-looking rig (any SCA time period) as well as for the most Chivalrous and for the Combatant that emerges Victorious. All weapons forms welcome.

Third Annual 3 Man Barrier Tournament – Sponsored by House Shadow Legion
Tuesday 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Weapons allowed will be daggers, spears and everything in between (no archery). Each side of the barrier will be 16' X 8'. Should any fighter step out of the barrier area they will be determined to be retreating and will be eliminated from the match. Prizes will be awarded to the first and second place teams.

The Meridian Rose Tournament – Sponsored by the Order of the Rose, Meridies
Thursday 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM

The Ladies of the Rose of Meridies are once again sponsoring a heavy weapons tournament at Gulf War. Entrants into the tournament must meet the requirements listed below.

  1. Participation is limited to non-belted fighters and non-royal Peers.
  2. The participant must be sponsored by a Lady of the Rose, who will be in attendance at the tournament.
  3. A Lady of the Rose may sponsor only one (1) participant in this tournament.

While it is hoped that this will be a standard, double-elimination tournament, should the number of participants be extremely high, as has been the case for a number of years, it may necessitate changing it to a single elimination format.

It is our collective wish to encourage and endorse those fighters who aspire to the highest ideals of chivalry and courtesy on the field of honourable combat.  We know that our 'Sister' Roses from other kingdoms are of the same mind. To wit, we would proclaim that in our eyes, the 'victors' of the day will be those
gentles who do all within their power to represent with all honour and courtesy, not only the Lady of the Rose who sponsors them, but the fine gentle whose token they otherwise bear. Our and their honour, we entrust to you upon the field of combat. We charge you to keep that ever at the forefront of your mind when you step onto the field. While a bout may be 'easily' won, honour, once lost, is not so easily reclaimed.

We look forward to the participation of those fine gentles that will come to the field, and to the fellowship of our Sister Roses.

The Ladies of the Rose, Meridies

Known World Squires Tournament – Sponsored by Sir Randal Sinclair Hawkins, Atlantia
Friday 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM

5 Man Melee Tournament -- Sponsored by the Legion of the Bear, Meridies
Friday 2:00 PM -3:30 PM

The Legion of the Bear will host an open weapon style melee tournament.  Each team may consist of no more than 5 fighters.  This tournament will conform to Meridian conventions of combat.
